Here are the Real 5-Star SNES Games

I recently did a video featuring the 5-star games from the Ultimate Nintendo SNES book. Several games were missing so here’s a look at those awesome Super Nintendo games that should have made the list.

  1. The only place I knew that had a Turtles in Time arcade game was a small pizza place called Pizza Etc.

  2. UN Squadron is a game I could loose myself in for hours. One of the best arcade ports ever to the system.

  3. Oh John, you say the darndess things about all the games.😂🤣 15:41

  4. Man… this list is so much better. Some great classics on here with hours of fun with each title.

  5. Loving these videos. I’m a little sad that you didn’t mention Illusion of Gaia but I understand that’s not for everyone.

  6. It’d be awesome if you did a 5 star GBA games video. The GBA SP (with the backlit screen of course) is probably one of my favorite handhelds ever. That and the PSP lol. Gotta love gaming on the go.

  7. Definitely F-Zero FFII Super Mario Kart and Legend of Mystical Ninja.. I played all 4 to death back in the day. Never got to play super mario RPG.. Wish I had.

  8. Maybe the real 5-star games are the friends we made along the way.

  9. Konami doesn't deserve any subscribers…they just need to sell their IPs if they aren't going to use them!

  10. Blasphemy! Wcw super brawl wrestling is a 5 star game😂

  11. Absolutely agree with E.V.O. The Legend of The Mystical Ninja, Mario Paint, Super Mario Kart, and Zombies Ate My Neighbours. While I’m going to be completely bias by throwing Illusion of Gaia onto the list.

  12. Another great video John. What Games for the Sega consoles, PlayStations, and Older Nintendo aged the best?

  13. Ff IV/2 is the one Square seems to give the most love to, and I think that’s for good reasons.

  14. I am really surprised soul blazer didn't make either on of these lists.

  15. Speaking of a new Pilotwings, consider playing Ultrawings on the PSVR. It has the same mix of Arcade action and light simulation

  16. I'd add Star Fox and Kirby Super Star to my personal list

  17. I totally agree with your view on Final Fantasy 2. I also think King of Dragons was 5 star. Great beat em up. Very close to the arcade version.

  18. Good call on TMNT4, UN Squadron, and Final Fantasy IV (II) which I prefer over 6 (3) bc story and that in 6 everyone becomes a mage and the abilities don’t matter as much.

  19. UN Squadron! Yeahhhh! Hit and away is my style!

  20. Zombies is underrated, the music is great too

  21. f-zero rooooooooooooooooooocks— one of the few racing games i like–

  22. I'll go further because Super Fam had even more Rpg's that were 5 star we never got. Like Star Ocean, Live a Live, Treasure of Rudras, and Terranigma. All worthy of 5 star's. HD-2D I would love for Square to do finally translate those games and give them the treatment Live a Live got. Now many have wanted Chrono Trigger to get that make over, I actually don't want it to get the HD-2D make over. It would mess with a game that doesn't need it, it's in a master class of it's own. I can't believe the Switch still has not gotten a port with Quality of Life that's all it needs. Just to run without slow load times, like Chrono Cross it doesn't need anything really.

  23. Your list is spot on John. I especially agree with Pilot Wings being a 5 star game. That game entertained my brother and I for hours on end back in the day. Now I enjoy playing Pilot Wings with my kids

  24. 100% agree with UN Squadron. Glad to see that game get some appreciation

  25. I love the list, but I don't agree that Final Fantasy 2 had a better story, or gameplay. Final Fantasy III was my favorite RPG of the 16-Bit era and I've completed both games twice. I thought that the twins in FF2 were kind of annoying, though I did feel sad for their ending.

  26. You never saw Turtles in Time in the arcade?!? I used to choose which arcades to go to based on whether or not they had this game. This game was a NECESSITY for my birthday parties!

  27. Yeah! UN Squadron!
Couldn't get past the first hour of FFII. Wasn't interested in playing as the very un-heroic lead.

  28. Good list 🙂 I would have added Dragon Quest/warrior 2 & 3

  29. Nah, Final Fantasy II/V has Master System graphics, that has to bring the final rating down. Can't rate it any higher than 3 out of 10 in that area, so it does hurt the game.

Demon's Crest is awesome, but the menuing and lack of speed makes it worse than Mega Man X. But demanding menuing for everything hurts the gameplay a bit.

  30. What if when John turns off the camera he is a hard core gang banging crazy man 😂😂😂😂

  31. Mario Kart on the SNES is the best, I'm not a big fan of the others version (over the top design)

  32. Now, forgive me if any of these actually did show up on the Ultimate Guide SNES book's list of 5 star titles, as I only perused it briefly. Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen is criminally underrated. Secret of Mana is less underrated, but still deserving of a spot as a 5 star game. Kirby's Superstar is also another masterpiece. I'm tempted to also put EVO, Search for Eden on there, as while it admittedly has some shortcomings, it's originality (46 Okunen Monogatari ~The Shinka Ron~ not withstanding) soundtrack, and depth of gameplay more than make up for that.

  33. Hi John. One of my favourite SNES games is Secret of Mana which a few people have already mentioned but also Syndacate Wars and Shadowrun. Also Super Bomberman 2 that had those bouncing slime bombs which looked like breast implants 😂

  34. Here's one that's missing! TMNT Tournament Fighters. It always puts a smile on my face, and I was thrilled to pieces when it was included in the Cowabunga Collection. Also Q*Bert 3! It's the ultimate evolution of Q*Bert, in my humble opinion.

  35. Between my friend and I we had about 30 SNES game each and like 15 of them were the same but the others we had different we both got to play them as well. Most of the ones we had are the best ones and almost all of the list we had. You're also right about the N64 versions of the games didn't have the same appeal but I actually skipped that and went to the PlayStation so I wouldn't have memories of that system.

  36. Demon's Crest was fun, but I missed the RPG elements of Gargoyle's Crest.

  37. I would love to see you do a video on 5 star intellivision games. I had as a kid 30 games for mine due to the fact that it was at the end of its run and I scored great bargin bin carts at the mall.
Worm Whomper was my all time favorite classic along with Sewer Sam and Night Stalker

  38. zombies ate my neighbors, good but not great – music leaves a lot to be desired and gameplay feels actively hostile

  39. I think YOU’RE 5 star! Have a good day, Riggsy

  40. Thank you for the update ^^

Now if you can get Hollywood to make a Streets of Rage movie. Only because I don't think they could screw it up. You would be the greatest.

  41. So glad you put Zombies Ate My Neighbors on there. Such a classic game that I still play to this day.
