Teen Dystopian Films vs The Hunger Games UCF Genre Film Essay

Our poetic video essay is about the generic textual features, stated in Daniel Chandler’s An Introduction to Genre Theory, in current dystopian films compared to the film The Hunger Games. Common teen dystopian film cliches repeatedly shown: running/survival, dilapidated environments compared to rich society, walls, trains, futuristic vehicles, advanced technology, disaster, evil government, white is evil, teen violence, and of course the hero and their love interest and/or triangle. Furthermore, these similar plots feature one person (usually a teenager) training to stand up against the corrupt government. We display the similar characteristics of the main teen hero, love triangle, villainous leader and basic themes of survival, oppression, rebellion, advanced technology, enlightenment, etc. among the films The Hunger Games, The Maze Runner, The Giver, The Host, Battle Royale, and Divergent series.
